Which are the 15 signs God is trying to remove someone from your life?
Introduction
One thing about being a child of God is that God always looks out for you.
The Bible says that His thoughts towards us are of peace and not evil to give us an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).
You are unaware of several things ahead. Still, God, who knows the end from the beginning, can alert you of them or work to help you avoid them if it is in His will.
One beautiful gift God supplies to His own is the inner witness of the Holy Spirit, which He uses to reveal His mind to us and help us to understand the signs around us when He wants to remove something or someone from our life.
Sometimes, there are people you need to be separated from to advance in your life.
These people could be relatives, friends, people you are in a relationship with, colleagues at the office, business acquaintances, etc.
They may not necessarily be “bad” people, but just as we read in the scriptures that there is a time and season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1), God may see it fit to be separated from them.
In this article, you will see fifteen signs that God is trying to remove certain people from your life.
You should be alert to pick up these signs, which usually manifest from the person or persons God wants to remove from your life.
15 Signs God is Trying to Remove Someone From Your Life:
#1 Strife
When there is constant strife between you and this person, it is a sign that it’s time to separate from that person.
In Genesis 13, Abraham and Lot were both wealthy and had many cattle that the land couldn’t contain their abundance.
Then strife began to happen between their herdsmen.
The Bible did not mention that God had to speak to Abraham about what to do, but Abraham was able to read the sign of strife and decided that they had to go their separate ways (Genesis 13:8).
James 3:16 says that there’s every evil work where strife is present.
Having disagreements occasionally is normal, but when you notice that the conflicts and disagreements are seemingly never-ending and increasing, it is a sign that God is trying to remove that person from your life. It may not even be directly like in the case of Abraham and Lot. However, it is evidently there, and no amount of peaceful attempts at stopping it seems to be working.
#2 Negative influence
This is a clear sign that God wants to remove someone or some persons from your life.
Whenever you are with such persons, they encourage you to live a sinful life that involves indulging in every kind of perversion and lust.
They encourage sinful behaviors such as telling lies, covering up the truth, stealing, immoral sexual activities, etc. That is all they seem to talk about and do whenever you contact them.
The Bible says you should have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather reprove them (Ephesians 5:11).
You are not to sit in the midst of the scornful, stand in the way of sinners, or walk in counsel of the ungodly (Psalms 1:1).
God knows that the more you have dealings with such people, the more you become like them and imbibe their lifestyle (1 Corinthians 15:33), which is not pleasing to Him.
When you begin to notice that someone is becoming a constant negative influence on you, causing you to sin, no matter what you try to do, it is a sign that it’s time to remove them from your life.
#3 Heretical
A heretic speaks against God’s core doctrines God while claiming to be Christian or a believer.
Apostle Paul talks about those who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof (2 Timothy 3:5).
It may not be something you have noticed before in your dealings and interactions with them. However, it becomes clearer and more noticeable to you as time progresses.
You may have even put them in your prayers for God to open their eyes to the truth of the gospel because you see them as a brother or sister in Christ who is just ignorant.
Still, they refuse core scriptural doctrines and insist on speaking heresies at every chance.
Having such people around you could be detrimental because their words begin to plant unbelief and doubt in the Lord in your mind and gradually lead you away from the truth.
You may have taken it to prayer, but there is no change.
It is a sign that God wants to remove such a person from your life before they can disrupt His work in and through your life.
Paul advises in Titus 3:10 to reject a heretic after admonishing them twice, and there’s no change.
#4 Disregarding and disrespectful
One sign God is trying to remove someone from your life is that you notice a pattern of disregard and disrespect to you.
They do not care about your values and treat you with constant disregard.
The Bible tells us to be kindly affectionate to one another and honor one another (Romans 12:10).
When it is clear that this person treats you as though they do not care about you, trampling on your feelings, and tends to always try to overshadow or overpower you. It is a clear sign you need to remove such a person from your life.
Kindness is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:23). Therefore, a lack of it shows that the person is not fully submitted to God and can damage you psychologically.
Being kind and tenderhearted towards one another is a display of the very nature of God, and He will not endorse anyone who is unkind and disrespectful to anyone.
#5 Differing values
When the person’s values conflict with the biblical values you uphold as a Christian, it is a clear sign that God is trying to remove such a person from around you.
It may be a person you are in a relationship with or someone you want to go into a business partnership with.
When you notice that their values don’t align with yours, having that person around you is unwise, especially when their values go against those taught in the scriptures.
God’s word should always outweigh any other thing, therefore, when you see how much of the value systems they uphold dishonor the word of God with no interest in correcting themselves, then it is time for you to avoid having dealings with such a person.
The conflicting values will prevent you from moving forward or advancing, which is why you have to take note of the sign and listen to the leading of God.
#6 Lack of peace
If you feel restless around the person, that may just be God trying to tell you something important.
You notice that you do not feel peace when you are with this person, and something feels off about them. The Holy Spirit could be trying to notify you about something wrong with the person.
You may even pray for God to resolve the issue, but you only feel it stronger the more you pray.
This is a clear sign that God doesn’t want you around that person or that person around you.
The Bible says that God’s blessings add no sorrow (Proverbs 10:22), so if being around that person takes away your peace and causes you to be restless, God wants to remove them from your life.
#7 Controlling
When a person loves to have dominant control over your life in many or all areas, this is a mighty red flag and a sign that God is trying to remove them from your life.
Exerting power and dominance over you is not what God wants for you. God alone has the only and final say over your life (Lamentations 3:37). It is a trait of the devil to try to Lord over you in a forceful, manipulative manner which is not of God.
God wants us to be loving and tenderhearted towards one another (Ephesians 4:32), and a controlling attitude is the opposite and a sign to separate yourself from such a person.
#8 Prevents growth
It was after Abraham was separated from Lot that God Abraham the promise of expanding him and his seed (Genesis 13:14).
Abraham was already great, but he became even greater from that point onwards. Some people prevent others from growing.
They do not want to grow themselves, and they discourage any attempt to let their friend or colleague grow.
If someone seems to always draw you back when trying to achieve personal growth in your spiritual walk with God, your career advancement, and the like, it is a sign to separate yourself from them.
#9 Draining
Each time spent with the person leaves you emotionally drained.
They are continually pessimistic, always having something negative and discouraging to say whenever you interact with them.
This is a sign that God is trying to remove them from your life.
The Bible tells us that we should only speak edifying words that will bring grace to the hearers (Ephesians 4:29).
The person always seems to counter your words of edification. You find yourself feeling drained with each interaction with them. It’s time to let them go.
It is not in your place to change a person. That is the work of the Spirit of God. In a bid to convert the person, you may be pulled down by your continuous fellowship with such a person.
And the clear sign that you are heading in that direction is the draining feeling you have around them. You need to remove them from your life and only pray for them.
#10 Incites anger
Another telltale sign that God doesn’t want someone around you is if they always seem to bring out the worst in you.
You find yourself always angry around them either because they encourage such emotion or they constantly, without fail, do something to upset you and get you riled up.
This doesn’t mean that you have something against the person or anger issues, but you notice that they derive some form of pleasure in making you angry and upset.
Having such a person around you may make you do something you should not do out of anger.
If this anger the person ignites doesn’t seem to go away with prayer, God may be trying to tell you to remove them from your life.
#11 Withdrawal
When the person begins to withdraw or suddenly withdraws from you, it is a sign for you to let go.
Sometimes, the removal may not come from our end but from the other person.
It may seem sudden and without explanation even after you try to find out the reason behind such sudden withdrawal, but you are to trust God in whatever happens and move on.
You may not be able to tell who has wicked motives against you, and they may be laying low and living in pretense to be close to you, but God can step in and cause them to feel uneasy to carry out their wicked plans, and they decide to leave you alone.
God works in ways we do not see and may never know. Encourage yourself in the Lord, always pray, and God will fight the hidden battles you are unaware of and give you victory.
#12 Feeling caged and afraid
God has not given us a Spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7), and fear is the absence of love (1 John 4:18).
Whatever is tagged as love instills fear, and the feeling of being trapped is not of God.
This is a clear sign that God doesn’t want that person in your life. Fear breeds torment, the complete opposite of the freedom you are to have in Christ Jesus.
When a person feeds fear into your heart and makes you feel trapped, this is a huge sign that you are to separate yourself from that person. This type of fear imparted by someone cannot be prayed away because the source of fear is still present.
Until there is a removal of such a person from your life, they will continue to have the power to inflict you with fear. Prayerfully remove them from your life.
#13 Dishonest
The Bible tells us to speak truth always (Ephesians 4:25).
A lying tongue is an abomination to God (Proverbs 6:16-17). Having someone who is constantly dishonest and tells you a lot of lies damages your life.
Knowing that this person is unrepentantly dishonest with you is a sign that God is trying to remove them from your life.
He will not want you to keep such a person around you because their lies may rope you into trouble, and God loves you too much to want that to happen to you.
Being associated with such a person may make others believe you are equally dishonest.
A dishonest person is untrustworthy, which can prevent a lot of good from coming to them. Take note of the sign and follow the leading of God away from such a person.
#14 Obsession
If you are looking for a clear sign that God is trying to remove someone from your life, one such sign is the unhealthy obsession you have over them, or they have over you.
Love is neither unruly nor obsessive.
Self-control is one virtue of the Spirit of God, and those with the Holy Spirit have control over their thoughts and emotions (1 Corinthians 9:27, Ephesians 4:23, Romans 12:2).
People have committed diverse sins due to obsession.
Obsession also shows that the object of obsession has taken the place of God in one’s life. This is dangerous and a clear sign that you must be separated from that person.
#15 Zero support
Tough times will surely come, but having a supportive system can help us through those difficult times.
The Bible encourages us to pray for one another and bear each others’ burdens (James 5:16, Galatians 6:2).
When you notice someone unsupportive in and out of difficult times, it is something to be wary of.
You notice that they get jealous during times of achievement and silent during times of difficulty.
This is a sign to remove them from your life.
It is important to remain prayerful so that these signs will be clear to you when they begin to manifest.
Being able to recognize when God is trying to remove someone from your life is paramount to your growth in Christ because God wants your soul (everything about you) to prosper.
It may be difficult having to cut off from the people God wants to separate you from because of your love for them and the change it will bring but remember that all things work together for good to those who love God and those who are called according to His purpose.
Keep your faith and trust in God always.
