What is the biblical meaning of dark clouds in a dream?
Introduction
If you are someone who dreams a lot, then what you see in your dreams is important.
Our dreams may represent a lot of our inner thinking, emotions, and conflict.
As such, understanding that what you see in your dreams matters a great deal is very important.
If you are seeing a lot of dark clouds in your dreams, though, it could be a signal of impending challenge.
Dark clouds often represent storms and strife.
As such, understanding what these dark clouds mean is very important.
There are many interpretations out there, such as the biblical meaning of dark clouds in a dream.
Like all parts of the Bible, though, the meaning of dark clouds in our dreams can be confusing – often contradictory.
So, let us take a look at what some of the potential meanings will be.
There are lots of variables out there, so we will break down what is seen as the most reasonable explanations.
What is the biblical meaning of dark clouds in a dream?
The presence of trouble
The most common reason to see a dark cloud in your dream is impending challenge and trouble.
If you are seeing a lot of dark clouds in your dreams, then it is a clear signal that you are in the midst of a battle that you need to win.
This does not mean a physical battle but an emotional one or a mental one.
Are you struggling with a tough time in your life?
Then the dark clouds might represent that.
It is rare that seeing dark clouds in a dream would mean anything other than an impending challenge.
If you are seeing them more and more often, you should prepare for something challenging in your life to be on the horizon.
It could be facing off against an illness, an argument with a loved one, or a professional issue.
Sadly, what trouble you face is rarely explained by the dream itself.
It is, though, a subconscious telling that something is coming that you need to be prepared to face off against with all that you have. This, naturally, can feel like quite a worrying experience.
Dark energy surrounds you
If you feel like your life is going off the rails a little, then the biblical meaning of dark clouds in a dream can point to the fact that darkness surrounds you.
The presence of dark clouds represents our inner feelings of conflict and strife.
And when we know that we are surrounding ourselves with the wrong kind of people, it can cause us to see dark clouds in our dreams.
This is your body, mind, and spirit telling you that things are wrong.
That there is an inherent danger in the life that you lead.
It could be down to a new job that you have taken on that makes you feel unhappy.
It could be down to surrounding yourself with people who are not good for you.
The reasons can be numerous, but the most common biblical meaning of dark clouds in a dream is that you are surrounded by darkness.
This is when you should seek help and clarity from those who you trust.
If you feel like someone or something is having a negative impact on your life, speak with others.
Pray to the Lord.
Give yourself a chance to understand the situation that you face.
You have an issue that needs to be resolved
Another common biblical meaning of dark clouds in a dream is that you are in the midst of facing off against a challenging issue.
If you are dealing with problems in your life, then it is natural that you will find it hard to shrug them off.
For many of us, these issues become very important to overcome.
They can consume our time and our thoughts, and it can make it hard for us to focus our attention elsewhere.
If you are someone who is facing off against an issue in life, personally or professionally, then the dark clouds could be a representation of that.
As such, you should be willing to commit more time and energy to overcome these issues.
You might find that so far, you have ignored the issue, and now it is becoming a more significant problem.
It could be a personal issue, such as your health or your well-being.
It could be a professional issue, such as impending redundancy or losing your job.
It could even be a social issue, such as losing a friend or arguing with someone you care about deeply.

You are not seeing things clearly
The other main biblical meaning of dark clouds in a dream is that you are not able to see the problem you face with clarity.
When you feel uncertain in life, clouds are a representation of that lack of clarity and vision.
You are not sure about what step(s) to take to make things better, and this can cloud your judgment and leave you unhappy.
These are serious issues, and something that you should take very seriously indeed.
Clouds represent the fact that we know there is an issue, but we are unsure about what the issue is.
It can, though, be a sign that you should reach out to others for insight and advice.
Perhaps they can see where you have gone wrong, or where the problems lie.
Generally, though, the meaning is going to be built around having to look for knowledge to overcome the shroud of darkness you face.
These problems are not going to simply go away; they are going to need you to stand up and face them head-on.
If you are not willing to do that, then it can be hard to make your dreams clear once again.
A symbol of God’s Presence
Dark clouds may symbolize the presence of God.
There are several illustrations of this in scripture, but the most classical is the story of the Israelites wandering in the wilderness.
The Bible says that during that time, God appeared to them as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light so that they could travel by day or night. Exodus 13:21
Because deserts can be scorching hot during the day, he gave them a dark cloud to provide them shade as they journeyed through the wilderness. And because the temperatures drop drastically at night, he became a fire for them by night.
The significance of dark clouds as God’s presence was also seen in the encounters that Moses had with God on Mt. Horeb.
In Exodus 19:20, God’s presence descended upon Mt. Zion in a thick cloud of smoke.
The thick cloud of smoke represented God’s holiness because, as he told Moses, no one could see him and leave.
As such, he covered the mountain in the thick smoke so that no man would see him.
But an even better illustration of this truth is found in the Book of Kings.
Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; 1 Kings 8:12
From this scripture, it is clear that Solomon was confirming that God dwelt in a dark cloud.
This picture is again painted for us when the disciples witnessed Jesus ascending to heaven in a cloud (Acts 1:1–9).
All these biblical illustrations are enough proof that seeing a dark cloud in your dreams could symbolize God’s presence, power, and authority.
A symbol of Divine protection
A dark cloud could also be a symbol of God’s divine protection.
We have already seen how God protected his children from the heat of the desert by sending a pillar of cloud over them by the day. But long before this happened, God had used a cloud to protect them in another way.
Check it out:
Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long. Exodus 14:19-20
This was a time when Pharoah decided to pursue the children of Israel.
When the Israelites saw the armies of Egypt advancing on them, they were afraid and started crying to God.
That is when God released a dark cloud as a demarcation between them and the enemy.
The cloud served two purposes – it gave Israelites light but gave darkness to their pursuers.
That way, Israel would focus on going forward while the enemy would be thrown in disarray.
In the book of Corinthians, Paul reminds us that even though we live in the world, we have weapons that are superior to those of the world.
He reminds us that our weapons are not carnal, but they are indeed mighty through God.
And one weapon God can use is a dark cloud. Granted, you may not see a physical dark cloud, but if it appears in your dreams, it could be an indication that God has activated his divine strategy to keep you safe from the wiles of the enemy.
A symbol of distress
A dark cloud can also be a symbol of distress or bad fortune. We know this from the following scripture;
That day will be a day of wrath— a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Zeph. 1:15
In the scripture above, prophet Zephaniah is talking about God’s looming judgment.
He describes that day as a day of gloom, dark clouds, and blackness.
From this scripture, we can infer that black clouds could also signify distress. This could be as a result of God’s judgment (as in the scripture above), or it could be as a result of some other calamity.
The devil is described as the prince of darkness, and his kingdom is referred to as the kingdom of darkness.
It is, therefore, not hard to imagine that a dark cloud could signify a demonic attack.
Thankfully, it is not the end of the road because you can stand firm and resist such attacks. As James explains, if you resist the enemy, he will flee away from you.
