Introduction

One of the best things that will ever happen to anyone is to be chosen by God.

To be chosen by God is to be singled out and set apart from the billions of people in the world for a unique assignment and purpose.

God is not man and does not play favoritism.

He is not moved by our physique, the size of our bank account, our education qualification, or how wise we are.

In fact, in most cases, He chooses the misfits, the rejected, the odd ones, and the square pegs in round holes (Romans 8:30).

When God calls or chooses you, He transforms, empowers, and blesses you with all you need to fulfill His will and achieve your dreams.

Therefore, often, there’s no standard you must have or boxes you must tick to become God’s choice, like in the case of Paul, who God chose despite his history of persecuting Christians.

However, the question is, how do you know you are the chosen one?

What are the signs to look out for to understand that God has singled you out for an assignment?

Some signs you should keep an eye out for are listed below.

Signs You’ve Been Chosen by God:

#1 A desire to give your life to Christ

The main sign that God wants to choose you is when you strongly feel like turning away from your sinful ways and becoming born again.

That is the first and most important sign that God is up to something in your life.

This feeling might come from a sermon you heard or an event you experienced.

As much as God loves everybody because we are all His creation, there are some people He cannot work and commune with because of His nature.

God is holy, and He cannot behold iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13).

Therefore, anyone He will choose must purify themselves by abstaining from sin and living a holy life.

They must go through the conversion process, including believing in Christ, confessing and repenting of sin, being baptized, and living righteously.

For example, God chose Paul to bear His name before the Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel (Acts 9:15).

But He still had to go through the conversion process before He could begin His assignment. So God sent Ananias to minister to Paul and baptize him (Acts 9:17-18)

So, when you feel a strong urge to forsake sin and embrace the Lord’s way, rest assured that God has chosen you.

Do not hesitate.

Accept Christ, forsake sin, and God will work through you.

 #2 You see visions

One way to know God has chosen you is when you see visions consistently.

Vision might come as a dream, a flash of an image in your mind, a trance, an audible voice, etc.

Experiencing visions is a sure way that God has chosen you to be a channel through which He reveals His purpose to the world.

It could be a sign that you have been chosen to be a prophet, God’s mouthpiece through which He echoes His thoughts and intention to individuals and people.

Also, vision might be personal. God might show you what He has chosen you to become.

For example, God communicated to Joseph through visions (Genesis 37:1-44:9).

God revealed to Him that He would become a great leader that would command reverence and respect from people.

His vision came to pass when He became Egypt’s Prime Minister, who devised a policy that helped cushion the impact of famine in the world.

If you are a dreamer like Joseph or see things beyond the ordinary through different means, know that God has chosen you.

#3 You hear God

Not everyone hears God’s voice, or better still; God doesn’t speak audibly to everyone.

When you hear God, loud and clear as a believer, it means you are special in His sight.

God confirms speaking audibly to a person as a sign that He had chosen them when He said this about Moses in Numbers 12:8: “I speak with him face to face, even plainly, and not in dark sayings.”

 Therefore, if you hear God’s voice clearly and He gives you direct instruction and information that does not require you to put extra effort into deciphering what He said, then you are a chosen one.

Samuel was just a regular boy going through mentorship and training in the temple under Eli.

But when it was time to choose Him, God called his name and spoke to Him (1 Samuel 3:4-11)

#4 You perform miracles

Anyone can learn the tricks of a magician.

But nobody can learn how to raise the dead, multiply two fishes and five loaves of bread to feed thousands of people, turn water into wine without using any fruit or ingredient, walk on water, or deliver the oppressed from demons.

The ability to perform miracles is a special gift from God.

It takes divine empowerment for you to do things out of the ordinary.

Above all, God must select you as a worthy vessel through which the miraculous will happen.

Jesus was an example of someone God chose to do signs and wonders. He did miracles back-to-back, even till the point of defeating death to resurrect after three days after being buried.

The beautiful thing is that you, too, can perform miracles if God chooses to give you the power.

As such, if you have been performing miracles like healing the sick or doing anything out of the ordinary, that is a sign that God has chosen you.

#5 Swift answers to prayers

While some people have to wait for some time before what they prayed for comes to pass, others receive an instant answer to whatever to ask God.

If God confirms your word as soon as it drops out of your mouth, know that he has chosen you.

Elijah operated in this realm.

He decreed that there would be no rain unless by his word.

And it was so (1 King 17:1).

A severe drought lasted three years (1 Kings 18:1).

However, in In 1 Kings 18:41-45, Elijah decreed that rain would fall, and it came to pass. All these were possible because God had chosen Elijah to be His prophet.

Therefore, if whatever you declare swiftly manifests, it is a sign that God has chosen you.

#6 Divine protection and intervention

Have you had a near-death experience like being the only survivor in an auto crash or having no scratch after an accident, even when you should have had a severe injury based on the gravity of the accident?

If yes, then there’s a spiritual force keeping you away from harm and preserving your life for a divine assignment you must fulfill.

God delivered David from the hands of Saul on many occasions because he had a glorious future designed by God.

For instance, David got insider information about Saul’s plot to eliminate him and even escaped being pinned to the wall by King Saul’s spear (1 Samuel 19:18).

Psalms 91:11-12 says, “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.” 

The Benefits of Being Chosen by God

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

One of the beautiful things about being chosen and called by God is that you manifest one or more gifts of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 lists these gifts: “for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” 

These gifts help the called or chosen function effectively in ministry and service to people and God.

They will be able to reach out to the people, heal them, carry their burdens, and transform them to the glory of the Lord. 

Ephesians 4:11-12 gives more insight into the different offices or capacities in which people with these gifts will function.

 “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” 

Jesus Christ empowers those who accept His call to service. This is an excellent reward as you function in the supernatural realm. 

The transition from darkness into light

God calls us from darkness into His marvelous light. Darkness is the world where sin thrives and other evil lurk in.

Being in the dark makes us vulnerable to evil and the enemy’s attack, such as sicknesses, oppression, and torment. 

However, those called into light experience a newness that transforms their reality and gives them a new beginning.

They become new creatures, experiencing freedom from captivity sicknesses and escaping death, the ultimate penalty for being in sin. 

When the light comes, direction follows.

Then, we experience progress in every area of life. Furthermore, we become carriers of light, shining brightly in a dark world, rescuing those in darkness, and bringing them into the new realm in which we now operate.

The Apostle Paul used to be in darkness when he was still Saul, the persecutor.

He was actively working for Satan, attacking the church and killing the disciples. However, he encountered God through a divine light that shone so bright from heaven.

He became a new person and started working against the darkness he once lived in, preaching the gospel and helping people transition from darkness into God’s light.

Access to divine wisdom, guidance, and power

“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

God does not call the qualified.

Instead, He qualifies those He called. He bestows grace, wisdom, and power on the chosen one. He refines, prunes, and purifies.

All through the Bible, God does not go for the best.

He does not choose those who believe they are good enough and have all it takes to fulfill His purpose.

That is why He chose Moses, the murderer, and stammerer, to become the deliverer of Israel.

He selected David, the young shepherd boy, to become king and face Goliath, the mighty warrior.

Jesus also chose fishermen and those considered sinners to become His disciples and spread the Good News across the world.

The unique thing about all those God called is that they enjoyed divine grace and uncommon help beyond human understanding.

That will be your experience if you accept God’s call upon your life.

He will strengthen your weaknesses.

Eternal inheritance in heaven

Everyone called by God, who served diligently, is not left without a glorious reward in heaven.

Firstly, they will reign with God in eternity.

Secondly, they will receive one or more of the heavenly crowns, including the Imperishable Crown (1 Corinthians 9:24-25), The Crown of Rejoicing (1 Thessalonians 2:19), the Crown of Righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8), the Crown of Glory (1 Peter 5:4) and the Crown of Life (Revelation 2:10).

God owes no man. Hebrews 11:6 says, “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

 Therefore, accepting His call gives you access to an everlasting inheritance. 

Ability to fulfill the Great Commission

Jesus Christ gave us a mandate to go into the world, make disciples of all nations, baptize people, and teach them all that He had taught us through His Word and Spirit.

This is called the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Being chosen by God affords one the opportunity to fulfill this commission. 

We become tools in God’s hand, breaking down the stronghold of sin and the devil and bringing freedom to captives.

Fulfilling the Great Commission comes with its perks, according to Mark 16:17-18, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Bible Verses About Being Chosen by God

John 15:16 – “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

1 Peter 2:9 – “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

Isaiah 43:10 – “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.”

2 Thessalonians 2:14 – “He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Deuteronomy 14:2 – “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”
