What Does The Bible Say About Witchcraft?

Witchcraft is like an Octopus with many tentacles.

These tentacles include magic, fortune-telling, rituals, necromancy, and mediums.

All these practices are against God’s Word.

They are Satan’s attempt to copy God, using demonic powers and ungodly channels to tap into spiritual realms and manipulate things.

God’s position about witchcraft is clear: He detests it and will judge those who engage in it (Deuteronomy 18:10-14).

Witchcraft involves evil practices like human sacrifice and idol worship, which are grievous sins against God.

They are the first and sixth commandments from the Ten Commandments God gave Moses (Exodus 20:1-17).

Witchcraft was not likely taken in the Old Testament.

Those caught practicing the act experience instant execution (Exodus 22:18; Leviticus 20:27).

God commanded that there should be a clear separation between His people and those practicing witchcraft because associating with them will lead to one sharing their punishment (Deuteronomy 18:12)

Why is God against witchcraft?witchcraft in the bible

Witchcraft involves seeking and using dark powers and magic to gain spiritual insights, predict the future, manipulate people, and commit other forms of evil.

These powers come from the devil, the leader of the kingdom of darkness.

God’s Spirit is the only genuine source of power. But the devil always seeks ways to disguise and create counterfeits of God’s works to deceive people and destroy their lives.

He does that by using demonic powers to do supernatural things. However, unlike God, who uses His Spirit to save, heal, bless, and prosper, the enemy uses his powers to kill, steal, and destroy.

And one of his tools is witchcraft because he understands that people like miracles and events that transcend the natural. Therefore, those always seeking signs fall into his trap.

Those who engage in witchcraft and those who use their services are possessed by evil spirits.

They become vessels of demons and pawns in the devil’s hands, and the end is always destruction, even to those who seek such powers or patronize witches, soothsayers, and mediums.

A typical example of someone who used these powers and died was King Saul in the Bible.

1 Chronicles 10:13 says, “Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance.” Therefore, God is against witchcraft because it ultimately leads to death.

Witchcraft defilesWhy is God against witchcraft

Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19:31)

Whatsoever is from the devil defiles.

It corrupts the soul and makes one unholy (1 Corinthians 5:6).

The Apostle Paul warns believers about being unequally yoked with unbelievers.

He asked, “For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14)

We are supposed to be children of the everlasting light of God.

We must be known for purity, solely depending on God for help and direction.

We must stay away from other sources of power and those who hide in darkness and secrete to do abominable things if we want to remain in Christ.

Consulting a witch doctor means you have identified with the devil. Therefore, it automatically means that you are defiled and dissociated from God.

This implication of this is that you become a partaker of their punishments and judgments.

Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.” (Deuteronomy 18:12)

Witchcraft ensnaresbible verses against witchcraft (kjv)

Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds and I will tear them from your arms; I will set free the people that you ensnare like birds.” (Ezekiel 13:20)

Only Jesus has come to set us free. Every other power ensnares and puts people in captivity.

For example, the Madman of Gadara was possessed by demons.

These demons isolated him in the graveyard and made him act violently, making people bind him with chains, which he broke.

The Bible did not mention the source of his problem. However, one of the most common sources of demonic possession and oppression is through involving in witchcraft.

Witchcraft ensnares in various ways.

It can lead to intrusive thoughts and nightmares.

It can also lead to sicknesses and incurable diseases beyond scientific solutions and interventions.

Therefore, one must avoid such demonic powers because the devil never gives without taking. Whoever comes in contact with him will go with baggage.

However, the good news is that God is ready to set those who have been ensnared by witchcraft power free.

Isaiah 61:1 says, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

Seek Him, and you will be free, or avoid witchcraft and not experience pain and suffering.

Witches will burn in helldivination in the bible

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

Witchcraft is a sinful act. And all sinners will end in hell.

This is an unpleasant truth that most people want to avoid.

Unfortunately, it is unavoidable.

God’s Word says the destination of witches is the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

God is merciful.

He exemplifies this by showing us kindness even when we deserve punishment.

He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for sinners.

Those who receive Him, confess their sins, and live righteously will escape God’s wrath and live. However, those who refuse to turn away from sin will end up in hell.

Therefore, God is willing to forgive and restore even the vilest sinner. But they must take the first step toward redemption and salvation.

Refusing to turn away from evil acts like witchcraft is an express ticket to hell.

Witchcraft is an act of fleshwhat does the bible say about witchcraft kjv

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft…I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21)

Certain acts are born from God’s Spirit.

These acts are godly and pleasing to God. However, other acts are inspired by the flesh.

Whatever is of the flesh is not of the Lord. The flesh is at war with the Spirit of God.

It craves contrary things to the Spirit.

It keeps you from pleasing God but pushes you to do things against God’s will (Galatians 5:16–17).

Those who are led by the flesh are children of the devil, while those who are led by the Holy Spirit are sons of God.

Those who are led by the flesh will not inherit the kingdom of God.

On the contrary, those who follow the leading of the Holy Spirit enter God’s kingdom.

God will destroy witchcraftwitchcraft bible verse

I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast spells.” (Micah 5:12)

God does not lie. He does whatever He says. His Words are decrees in heaven and on earth. Therefore, we must handle His Words with fear and reverence because He will surely fulfill them.

When He says He will destroy witchcraft, He will accomplish it.

A typical example in the Bible is Elijah’s encounter with the prophet of Baal.

The Bible records that a competition about the real God between the God of Elijah and Baal was set, and everyone was to call on their God to set the sacrifice they had prepared ablaze (1 Kings 18:20-40).

The prophets of Baal were disappointed because they called out and did all their rituals, including self-harm, but no answer. However, Elijah God on God, and He rained down fire from heaven that consumed the sacrifice on the altar. After the Baal prophets failed, they were executed.

God will visit those practicing witchcraft with disgrace and destruction.

They will be utterly disappointed and meet their Waterloo.

They might enjoy success, fame, and riches for a while. But a moment will come when their cup will be full, and the opportunity for them to repent expires, and God will rain down judgment upon them like the Egyptians, and they will have nowhere to run to.scriptures against witchcraft

Are you into witchcraft, and it seems like you are enjoying success?

God’s punishment might come when you least expect it.

Therefore, repent and turn away from your destructive way.

God is merciful, but He is also a consuming fire.

He is the Lamb and also the Lion.
